And, gee, with all those awful problems, they still manage to have some of the best racing week in and week out. Those are the facts.

I guess you did not attend last year's race which was a complete Disaster on Saturday and then started late on Sunday.
Yeah, I did, and spending extra time at the race track with "real" race fans and friends is right up my alley. But then, the next positive post you post about anything would be a miracle. And, also, what Gearhead said above.

You can guarantee that! All of the people that complain about the price will be the same ones complaining when the place is gone.

It will be a shame when the gates are closed for good. Unfortunately PPMS has been dead for years. Big tracks are dying a slow death. There headliner for years was the slm. I think they actually made a come back with the crates, to little, to late, the crate LM puts on a good show. Facilities can not put fans in the seat to watch them unless there piggy backed with other divisions. They hope teams bring enough people in the back gate. I saw video from VMS the front gate was a disaster. They had 100 cars and dam good racing, and stop saying it's in the middle of nowhere. Syracuse was 10hrs, Eldora is 6, east bay 16. Oops not any longer. Fans didn't go because they don't care.[/q
This is the future of Crate racing as you can see nobody goes to watch it no matter what they pay or how many cars come.

"But what keeps the track open long term? Back gate."
In my opinion it only keeps the track open if it brings a show front gate fans want to see. Otherwise they may as well close the big track and rack karts.

The Front gate doesnt cover nearly what you seem to think it does. The profit margins on running a race track are so razor thin and people just dont get it"But what keeps the track open long term? Back gate."

On car counts: Some local divers just won't come out when Lucas or the WoO come to town as they don't think they have a chance!! I thought the "Uncle Sam" at Lernerville would bring a bigger up tic in car counts than it did. Guess guys will just stay home at that time of year and race for points!!
GOOD RACING!!!

I get thin margins, I work in an industry like that. But that's even more reason to not lose your income streams. Pay to play sounds great until the owners and drivers run out of money, or decide that they want to at least feel like they have the possibility to come out ahead some nights. If the margin is so low, and I don't doubt that it is, losing the front gate is as much of a catastrophe as losing the back gate. And just like most industries, ignoring what your customers are willing to purchase and for how much is a recipe to not be in business for long. Arrogance is never a good business model. Ask Steve Case of AOL, except he still doesn't understand what happened there, (arrogance will do that).
My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

We have a lot race smart people on this site, and some smart asses also. My question is if you were a track owner and you faced these problems what would you do?

You must have something to offer asking such a question. What would you do?
