Man it's great that they went to the Penn Ohio rules. Got a stellar field of 7 cars and 4 started the feature! It is really paying off for the track!

When you pay next to nothing your going to get next to nothing car count wise.

I've seen the class get priced out twice now..the Flyin Street stocks of the 80's got out of hand which gave way to the Purestock class..which eventually turned into the Prostocks all the while losing cars and getting too expensive.

back in the 90's the racing was awesome.

they have a good thing going with the Hobby stock class..hope it too doesn't go the same route.

You are correct but the geniuses on this board act like Penn Ohio is the best thing going today but say crates is all about the money. You won't win a Penn Ohio race with a motor from the junkyard.

There are 5-7 guys (and girl!) who plan running PPMS as much as possible who arent ready yet. Granted 10-14 cars isnt anything to celebrate but i dont think they will average 4 cars starting every feature. No matter how much PPMS pays there is a large group of drivers who are scared of the place or feel it is too tough on motors. Trust me, going on 10 years of the ELM I know. If I moved the ELM to Lernerville Id get 70+ cars. But it is what it is.

The pro stocks are now mirroring the open emods around 2013. Theres more support for hobby/pure stocks due to cost. Same as what happened with 2 barrel/econo mods. I actually predicted this 5 years ago. Youre going to have a very dedicated, skilled group of 35-40 pro stocks supporting the 6 big Penn Ohio shows on average. I believe they have over 70 members eligible for the weekly points fund similar to Rush. That is why POPS reduced their series to 6 big shows and weekly points structure as they didnt want to hurt weekly car counts as there are less of them around.

Up north there are a ton more pro stocks racing. Sharon will have close to 30 cars every week. Stateline had 4 heats on Saturday. Out this way Lernerville will get 17-20 weekly. Latrobe and PPMS will have 10-12 most weeks. Mercer and the Knob (previously) and Thunder Mountain (2021)dropped them weekly. Hidden Valley only had 4. I think the Bird had 14. I still havent figured out why there are so many more up north.

Sad fact is- promoters need to figure out how to address why 4 cylinder and pure stocks cars generally have the largest car count at a lot of local tracks. Obviously people want to race but cant afford whats going on with the traditional front gate classes.

It's all about affordability. Guys can build that 4 banger and a true pure stock in there garage. Although I think the pure stock, because of availability, will be a class on the decline in a few years. You just can't find cars to convert. I like the penn ohio deal, but even with these guys some are content racing when they can.

As a smart business man you should move their race to that track as you will also get it live on TV they do which in return promotes your race even more. I know you said your dad did not race there but in order to grow the event sometimes you have to try different things.

I agree. Obviously the emotional aspect is more important to me now. If PPMS ever closes it would be a logical move. But the Mileys have been good to me there letting me do my thing and the sponsor support is there. Im going to enjoy it while I can. 10 years now is crazy.

You can't get a crate motor out of a junkyard either, genius. Where is there evidence to suggest that if PPMS had gone to a crate stock class, there would be enough cars to justify the change? If you don't by now recognize that all crate all the time is never going to be the answer to the problems that currently exist with weekly dirt track racing, then I'm afraid I've got some bad news.

I hear you. Have you ever thought about the idea of bouncing it around to a different track one time just to get a measurement of where your race stands? Maybe it would improve car counts going somewhere else.

I know this is going to sound stupid but as bad as Pennsboro was as a facility the DTWC was just something you had to experience there to understand it. I guess thats where Im at with the ELM. When Pennsboro closed, it moved. Id probably need to have the same thing happen to me, and at that point maybe that would be the end of it. Im really curious to see what $5000 to win with no entry fees brings as far as the future of the race. With my luck probably less cars 😄.

And in my opinion the DTWC lost all of that anticipation and excitement when Pennsboro closed. Vince you do a great job in honoring your father for the ELM. I hope it continues for you for many years to come. If after PPMS goes away I don't think anyone would fault you for not continuing the race.

Yeah it's hard on big cubic inch engine trying to turn 8500 rpm while hardly lifting that's why PPMS is hard on engines .  What happened to a cubic inch limit ?  Say 360 or 400 have a specific head only turn it 7500- 7800 engines would last longer than a 430 in a street stock .   The bigger the engines got in this class the worse the actual racing has been IMO .

Coming from a Kugel this is not surprising. I can see why his old lady left him and took his kid and money.

You can spin it however you want, Rocky. The word on the street was you went down there running your mouth like a typical Kugel and when you seen there were about 5 people who would beat your ass you got out of there as fast as you could. Which I am not even sure why you felt the need to go down there anyway since you don't race you really shouldn't have a say in anything. You must be rubbing off on Cole too, now he is always crying the blues. When he dumps someone it's never his fault but when it happens to him he cries just like you used to.
