I like your idea, but that's a big financial risk that late in the season without a backgate supported by those divisions "no one wants to watch". While that may be mostly true, those bottom 3-4 divisions practically pay themselves. Your idea is $45,000 to win alone, not to mention the payout throughout the field. As a fan, I'd love to see it, but I wouldn't want to be the guy signing the checks and balancing the ledger on Sunday. Even at $45 per person for a two day ticket, you'd need 1000 people through the gates just to pay the winners. Local racing has shown that $5,000 or $10,000 to win shows don't always bring bigger fields, especially in a near recession at the end of the season and with a purse that's top heavy and falls off a cliff and barely paying tow money for positions 11 through 20 or 24. The purses for the Stampede may not pay 5/10K to win, but the payout top to bottom is decent. I do like the idea of splitting the divisions up over two nights, but to jo's point, you're not getting anywhere near a fab four crowd Friday night up against high school football and then if the weather is crappy Saturday night you're taking a five figure bath to finish your season. That's how tracks end up on the Berkshire Hathaway site!
No, hes right. There was low attendance for this event last year too with much better weather. This is my yearly
take that this is a nothing happening event that could be so much
better if they eliminated some classes that no one wants to see and raised the purses in the classes that people that do, namely the big 3, maybe also the Rush lates. Drawing a better quality of car in every division will draw more people. As it is, youre expecting people to make a big deal over regular show fields with 4 or 5 backgate classes.
Super Lates, Sprints, Modifieds, Rush Lates 10,000 to win.
Street Stocks 5,000 to win.
