#454756 Dylan Norris Takes Western PA Sprint Speedweek at PPMS: 5-30-24

I didnt stick around for all the drama, but Im guessing that isnt the only rubbered down race track in the history of sprint car racing. To then try to leave the junk tires all over the pits is really pathetic IMO.

#454159 Another Gorgeous Night for Racing at PPMS: 9-16-23

Just wanted to add to your astute post as always Flash- the improvements at the facility continued tonight. The walls were painted a fresh white, some LED bulbs were put in around the track making a noticeable difference, and there was a crew cutting down brush/trees as you entered the speedway tonight so they could widen the general admission road. Please support this track, especially the Pittsburgher, so we can keep the track progressing and becoming great again! Thanks.

I took a chance and went. MORE was done to the place in 7 days than the past 5 yrs miley had it. Big crowd and very race track. ILL be back again. Owners were nice when they were introduced.

While I am excited about a new era at PPMS, one that has the support of Sparkler after all these years of busting my balls is even more exciting 😄

#453793 PPMS Sold Finally?

Posted by Racer17L on 02 July 2023 - 09:09 PM

It's going to be a process for sure, but we have give the new folks time and understand that they bought a facility that has been milked for all its worth at this point. Everything I've heard so far has been positive and they already started working on it, which is encouraging.

100% correct. I havent met the new owners yet, but Ive been told they are younger, motivated, and excited to improve the track. They will run their primary business on the property and keep it a track as long as it makes money. Improvements have begun and others are on the way. Look for a big announcement on another event soon. Pittsburgher is not going anywhere.

Dirt- Ill buy you a beer and a Miley burger if you can provide one specific example of the Mileys themselves stiffing a driver on pay. Ive been involved with the track in some capacity basically my whole life and have never seen or heard of that one time. Ive actually heard the opposite- people may hate how the Mileys run things but theyve never stiffed on pay.

Great recap flash. The track crew deserves praise for the surface last night. That was one of the best races I have seen there in a long time. Norris and Charlier put on a show.

Funny Chrome I was thinking the same thing. PPMS definitely has its warts as does every other speedway. But the racing itself last night was fantastic. And just watching those slide jobs and 3-4 grooves made me think how brilliant Nick Garin was to design such a great track. Not too big like WVMS but a little bigger than a Lernerville. Was a great show.

I'll pass on that.  I have, and will continue to, direct my concerns, opinions, and suggestions to Mike.   I appreciate the offer tho. BTW.  The fish went downhill in the last couple years, and is now too pricey for whatcha do get. It used to be the best thing on the menu

And we are all still waiting on an explanation of what went on in tech after the race.  And if the car in fact DID fail the droop rule, why was the win still awarded to the 4 car, and not the 1c ?  That should be public information to all of us that pay to watch fair and equal racing.

Im just here to say I agree with the fish sandwich comment. That was my go to many years at LV. The last couple years its been terrible. Eric, if youre going to fix anything get a new fish sandwich vendor 😄

#452295 Chris Schneider Win Ed Laboon Memorial Tonight at PPMS: 6-4-22

Thanks for the typical 5 star review Flash! Have to say in 11 years of this race its pretty remarkable we had one caution in the B main and one caution in the ELM the entire night. Speaks volumes to the track prep and the quality of all the Penn Ohio drivers. Thanks for all the support a very memorable night!

Please do not start everything straight up. The heat races are always boring.

We follow the Penn Ohio series format. This also ensures slower cars are not upfront in a heat with little experience at PPMS causing attrition. Over the years weve had very little carnage during the events. Last year the hard charger came from 24th to 5th (with another driver +18 spots). Curtis Bish won from 13th with one caution in 2014. Daryl Charlier was winning with 3 to go and he started 12th last year. There is still plenty of passing.

#451196 Latrobe Fall Fest Roll Call

Posted by Racer17L on 09 October 2021 - 03:48 PM

It's real easy Vince the place is a front gate track. Just like how every track used to be before they started to gouge the racers.

No I get that but much like WVMS sooner or later you need to pull some cars before the fans get tired of 5-7 cars finishing a feature. I hope they do, Im just surprised it is financially viable thats all. I mean $1,000 to win emods for what looks like 3 cars finishing is crazy.

#451181 Hudson O'Neal Win the Pittsburger Before a Big Crowd: 10-2-21

Funny Flash I was going to post that you know it was a good show since were still on the first page of the thread and no one is complaining 😄

#451133 Hudson O'Neal Win the Pittsburger Before a Big Crowd: 10-2-21

The brilliance of Nick Garin (PPMS builder in 1979) was on full display tonight. Took ONeil 30 laps or so but the bottom line paid off. It was cool to see the battle of the high side and tire management versus the shorter line and moisture of running the bottom. PPMS has its flaws but Id argue against any other track layout itself outside of Eldora that gives consistent 3-4 wide racing like the track showed tonight. Great race.

Dirtstudent- $39 GA, $40 pits

Funny thing is theyre actively deleting negative posts on their Facebook threads. Only thing left is great racing and car count comments lol. As the feature ended there were a bunch of choo-choo 1 groove and terrible track prep comments. This morning, poof, theyre all gone. Im going tonight, hoping for the best!
