#431905 Miley Makes History With Win In First ULTIMATE NE Race At PPMS

Posted by HelmComm on 16 July 2017 - 01:51 AM

IMPERIAL, PA – Jared Miley of Pittsburgh, PA made history Saturday night by taking the $3,000 victory in the first-ever ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series North East Region 30-lap Main Event on Saturday night at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway driving the Colussy Chevrolet Rocket.

Along with the history making win in the first-ever ULTIMATE NE race, Miley will now be a guaranteed starter in PPMS’ premier event, the $20,000-to-win 29th Annual Pittsburgher 100 on October 6-7.

Miley took the lead on lap 14 and then never looked back to take the checkered flag with a 5.501 second margin of victory.  Keith Barbara of South Park, PA finished second in the Viper Risk Management Black Diamond, and Alex Ferree of Valencia, PA took the third spot in the Frankland Racing Supply Rocket.

Tommy Beck of Sewickley, PA came home in the fourth spot after starting tenth driving the Delmont Instant Oil Change Rocket, and picked up a $100 bonus as the Dave Poske’s Performance Parts Hard Charger of the Race Award.  Tommy Schirnfoffer of Dormont, PA in the Leo Phillips Racing Rocket was fifth.

Tony Mussolino of Scott Township, PA finished sixth in the Deep Well Services Rocket and seventh went to Jon Hodgkiss of Kennedy, PA driving the Hodgkiss Construction Pierce.  Matt Dobnak of West Mifflin, PA drove the Dobb’s Automotive Special to an eighth-place finish, and Chris Schneider of Lower Burrell, PA was ninth in the Schneider Racing Special.  Steve Pyeritz of Brentwood, PA rounded out the top ten in the Horhut Tree Experts Rocket.

In preliminary action, Miley was the Fast Qualifier with a lap around the ½-mile dirt oval in 18.627 seconds.  Miley picked up a $125 Product Certificate from Keyser Manufacturing.  The two eight-lap Heat Races were won by Ferree and Barbara.

Ferree was also the Group 1 Fast Qualifier to earn the pole position for the main event, with Group 2 Fast Qualifier Miley starting on the outside of row one.  Ferree took the lead at the start of the race followed by Miley, Barbara, Mussolino, and Beck, who made quick work of moving from the tenth starting spot and into the top five.

The first of four caution flags came out on lap nine for a serious accident involving Chad Hollenbeck of Kingsley, PA.  Hollenbeck complained of neck pain, so extra time and effort was taken to carefully extricate him from his Jamie Griffin Logging Black Diamond, and he was transported to a local medical facility.

On the restart, Schirnhoffer was able to get by Beck to take over the fifth spot behind Ferree, Miley, Barbara, and Mussulino.  As the race approached the halfway point, Miley moved up to challenge Ferree for the lead.

Miley passed Ferree for the lead on lap 14, but before he could put any distance on Ferree, the caution flag came out on lap 15.  The restart was disastrous for Ferree, as he dropped from second to fifth.  The field was slowed by caution two more times on lap 21 and on lap 22.  On the restart to begin the eight lap dash to the finish, Mussolino fell from fourth the sixth.

Miley checked out on the field, while Ferree came back to get by Beck in the closing laps to take a top three finish.  The next race for the ULTIMATE NE Region will be right back at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday night, August 26 for a 30-lap, $3,000-to-win, $400-to-start race.

#429179 ULTIMATE MOV Will Present An Intro Pilot Season For 2017

Posted by HelmComm on 28 March 2017 - 06:10 PM

CARNESVILLE, GA – ULTIMATE Mid-Ohio Valley Super Late Model Series officials have been working hard on short notice to put together an event schedule that will best serve the competitors, the sponsors, and the fans.  Despite their best efforts, most tracks in West Virginia and Southern Ohio have already set their 2017 schedules.

With not enough room to schedule enough ULTIMATE MOV events to meet sponsorship requirements to pay a fair Point Fund to the competitors, officials have decided to present an Introductory Pilot Season for 2017 with three to five races.  With no point fund, these Intro Pilot races will not award any ULTIMATE MOV points.

This will give the tracks, the competitors and the fans in the region an opportunity to get to know the ULTIMATE MOV Tour, its officials, its race format, and to see firsthand what kind of great racing it can bring to the area.  It will also give ULTIMATE MOV officials an opportunity to look ahead to the 2018 season and get a full schedule in place with a generous Point Fund.

“We have come to realize that we are just too late in the off-season and most tracks have already set their 2017 schedules with no room to schedule another special event,” Ultimate Super Late Model Series Founder and CEO Stan Lester said.  “ULTIMATE MOV Director Robbie Cyrus was signed on in February, and he had a tough job to put together a full season schedule on such short notice.  He has created enough interest that we can run a limited schedule with just a few races to give both tracks and competitors an opportunity to get to know us.  If they like what they see, and I have confidence that they will, we can move forward towards 2018.”

Lester said Cyrus has already created a lot of interest in the ULTIMATE MOV Super Late Model Series for 2018.  Included in that interest for the new series is the American Motor Racing Association and Dave Poske’s Performance Parts.

AMRA, which sanctions weekly Super Late Model Racing in West Virginia and Ohio, and ULTIMATE MOV entered into an alliance to work together with rules and officials for 2017, and that alliance will continue into the 2018 season.  Dave Poske’s Performance Parts will remain the Title Sponsor for the ULTIMATE MOV Tour in 2017, and then again in 2018.

Since there will be no points and point fund for 2017 in the ULTIMATE MOV Tour, competitors will not be required to purchase Annual Memberships, but they may want to do so to take advantage of discounts for ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series required safety equipment available to members from Safecraft Fire Suppression Systems and Simpson Safety Products in Mooresville, NC.

“Point funds in any series are driven by sponsors and memberships,” Lester said.  “Most point fund sponsors participate based on a minimum number of races each season.  When it was apparent we couldn’t reach that minimum number of races for the Ultimate NE Region, we knew we couldn’t payout a fair point fund to our competitors.  We will, however, put a lot of effort looking ahead to the 2018 season to ensure its success for everyone involved.”

ULTIMATE MOV Director Robbie Cyrus is moving forward, and has already started assembling his crew of officials.  His first hire was veteran official Don Mercer as Technical Director, a position he also holds with AMRA.  Cyrus has mixed emotions about 2017, but really sees something big happening in 2018.

“I’m disappointed, but yet excited because while the tracks didn’t have room for us with full 2017 schedules, they are excited about the ULTIMATE MOV Series and what is has to offer,” Cyrus said.  “There’s already a lot of interest from tracks for the 2018 season, and I really feel that interest will get even bigger once we present our Introductory Pilot Season for ULTIMATE MOV.”

Cyrus said the 2017 ULTIMATE MOV Introductory Pilot Season schedule is just about ready to release and should be posted in just a few days.  AMRA drivers will still be able to earn weekly points at ULTIMATE MOV races at AMRA weekly tracks.  The ULTIMATE MOV races will pay a minimum of $3,000-to-win and $400-to-start.

#428961 Don Mercer Named Technical Director Of Ultimate MOV Series

Posted by HelmComm on 14 March 2017 - 09:45 PM

BECKLEY, WV – The Dave Poske’s Performance Parts Ultimate Mid-Ohio Valley Super Late Model Series Director Robbie Cyrus has named Don Mercer of Charleston, WV the Technical Director of the new series.  Mercer is a good fit for the Ultimate MOV, and he also techs the American Motor Racing Association, which has formed an alliance with Ultimate MOV.

Weekly AMRA Super Late Model Series competitors that run with the Dave Poske’s Performance Parts Ultimate MOV Super Late Model Series touring races will see a familiar face in Mercer, who also is the Technical Director with AMRA.  The AMRA competitors will receive AMRA points when they compete in Ultimate MOV series events.

Mercer comes from a racing family and has been around the sport for his entire life.  He has been a fan, a competitor, and an official.  As a youngster, he watched his Dad race Sprint Cars at Ohio Valley Speedway in the mid-1970s.  Beginning in 1986, Mercer began working as a crew member for various dirt late model teams.

In 2003, Mercer went to the “other side of the fence” and became a race official.  He has been a promoter, a Race Director and a Tech Inspection for the past 13 years.  He served in all of those positions at Beckley Motorsports Park in Beckley, WV from 2003 through 2011.  In 2007, he also worked at I-77 Speedway in Ripley, WV as Race Director, and then Technical Director.

Mercer became the AMRA Technical Director and the Modified Road Warrior Tour Race Director in 2011.  AMRA sanctions weekly super late model racing in West Virginia and Ohio.  The Dave Poske’s Performance Ultimate MOV Tour will give AMRA drivers an opportunity to compete in races with more laps and more money.

“I think Don Mercer will be an asset to the Ultimate MOV series as a Tech Man,” Cyrus said.  “Don is honest and fair with everyone.  I have worked with Don at different tracks and different series and he will do a good job with the Ultimate MOV Series.”

Mercer likes the concept of the Ultimate MOV and AMRA alliance and is looking forward to overseeing the technical aspect of the competition with his familiarity of the competition he will see coming through his tech line.

“I look forward to this opportunity with the Ultimate Mid-Ohio Valley Super Late Model Tour as their Technical Director,” Mercer said.  “The AMRA Late Models needed a regional tour, and with the two working together, it was the right fit for me to get back to touring and helping all our teams in the area get recognition.”

The first race for the 2017 Dave Poske’s Performance Parts Ultimate MOV Super Late Model Series where drivers can earn points will be part of a Quad-Sanctioned race for all four Ultimate Regional Series with the $20,000-to-win 60-lap Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA on Saturday night, April 8.

The race will be quad-sanctioned along with the Ultimate Southeast Super Late Model Tour, the Ultimate Battle of the Bluegrass Super Late Model Tour, and the Ultimate Northeastern Super Late Model Tour.  The Fastrak Southeast and Mid-Ohio Valley Pro Late Model Series will also be in action with a co-sanctioned 40-lap $3,000-to-win race at VMS on April 8.

Both races are National Points events for Ultimate and Fastrak.  Drivers can use the points earned in these respective races to replace an event point total of lesser value in their Regional point total.  The first Dave Poske’s Performance Parts Ultimate MOV points race will be on Friday night, June 2 at Beckley Motorsports Park in Beckley, WV.

The Dave Poske’s Performance Parts Ultimate MOV Super Late Model Series is currently booking races for the 2017 season.  For more information, contact the Dave Poske’s Performance Parts Ultimate MOV Series Director Robbie Cyrus at 304-575-3792 or E-Mail him at robbie@fastrakracing.com.
