08 August 2017 - 02:29 PM

CARNESVILLE, GA – Be sure to join FASTRAK/ULTIMATE General Manager D.J. Irvine at 8 p.m. Eastern time for a busy FASTRAK/ULTIMATE Forum on Facebook Live.  Irvine will be talking about a busy weekend of FASTRAK Pro Late Model racing that involved several point races.

The FASTRAK Pro Late Models started the weekend on Friday night at 311 Motor Speedway in Pine Hall, NC for a 40-lap, $2,000-to-win, $250-to-start race for FASTRAK South East Region points.  The results of that race saw a new FASTRAK SE point leader.

The FASTRAK crew then traveled to Princeton Speedway in Princeton, WV for the 40-lap, $2,500-to-win, $250-to-start Little General Stores UBB 29 Miners Memorial Qualifiers race awarding FASTRAK SE and Mid-Ohio Valley Region points.  This event was also the third and final Jewel of the 12th Annual FASTRAK Triple Crown.

The cars and stars of the FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series will return to Princeton Speedway this Saturday night for the special 40-lap, $3,000-to-win, $229-to-start 7th Annual UBB 29 Miners Memorial Race that will award both FASTRAK SE and MOV points.  As is the case with all FASTRAK Touring races, they will also award FASTRAK Weekly Racing Series points.

The latest point standings and race results for the FASTRAK Weekly Racing Series will also be revealed.  Competitors at FASTRAK Weekly Racing Series tracks are competing for a Division point fund, and a National point fund that pays $10,000 to the National Champion.

FASTRAK drivers are also looking to make sure they get in their ten required races to participate in both nights of the richest weekend in all of Pro Late Model Racing at the World Championship Weekend at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA on September 15-16.

On September 15, it’s the $5,000-to-win World Challenge Race for FASTRAK Members with ten or more races in 2017.  Then on September 16, it’s the $20,000-to-win 14th Annual World Championship Race that is open to all drivers with a FASTRAK-legal Pro Late Model powered by a Chevrolet Performance 604 or 602 Circle Track Engine.

The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series was off last weekend, but they will return to action with a Tennessee Two-Step on Thursday night, August 17 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN for a $10,000-to-win, $500-to-start race, and then travel to Crossville Speedway in Crossville, TN on Friday night, August 18 for a $4,000-to-win, $400-to-start event.

Airy, NC, and Walker Arthur of Forest, VA earned guaranteed starting spots in this Saturday night’s race.

The FASTRAK SE points chase is still the hottest in all of racing with just 19 points separating the top five in the point standings.  Hicks used a win last Friday night at 311 Motor Speedway in Pine Hall, NC, and a second-place finish last Saturday night at Princeton Speedway to take over the point lead with a 13-point advantage over Matthew Nance of Ronda, NC

Hicks has 300 points with three FASTRAK SE wins this season, and Nance has 287 points with one FASTRAK SE win this season.  Just six points separate second through fifth in the FASTRAK SE point standings.  Jensen Ford of Piney Flats, TN and the defending FASTRAK SE and MOV Champion Cla Knight of North Augusta, SC are tied for third with 282 points apiece.

Both Ford and Knight have one win this season.  Former FASTRAK Champion Ron Parker of Belwood, NC is fifth with 281 points.  The top four drivers in the FASTRAK SE point standings have all held the point lead at one time after the first ten races of the 2017 season, and the point lead has changed hands in six of the first ten races.

Tyler Bare of Rockridge Baths, VA won the 12th Annual FASTRAK Triple Crown points with a fourth-place finish Saturday night at Princeton Speedway, and he also leads the FASTRAK MOV points with a 17-point advantage over Hicks.  Bare, who has one FASTRAK Touring win this season, is also sixth in the FASTRAK SE points with 198 after racing in six of the first ten races.

Phillip Thompson of Knoxville, TN is seventh in the FASTRAK SE standings and leads the Rookie of the Year standings with 153 points.  Thompson has missed the last three FASTRAK races and trying to regroup his racing program to keep his eligibility up for post season awards.  Dylan Lewis of Oakland, MD is in the same boat as Thompson, and his eighth in the standings, and second in the Rookie of the Year points with 133.

Four-time FASTRAK Champion David Smith of Inman, SC is ninth with 128 points and 18-year-old Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA rounds out the top ten in the FASTRAK SE standings with 114 points.  Almond is also the FASTRAK SE Futures Cup point leader.  The Futures Cup is for drivers under the age of 20 at the beginning of the season.

The top ten respectively in the FASTRAK MOV point standings are Bare with 165 points, Hicks with 148 points, Nance with 141 points, Ford with 137 points, Parker with 132 points, Knight with 130 points, Almond with 87 points, Teddy Tate of Rural Retreat, VA, who also leads the MOV Rookie of the Year points with 84 points, Arthur with 76 points, and Thompson with 72 points.

Hornsby will be back this Saturday night to try and make it two in row for FASTRAK Touring wins at Princeton Speedway.  Hornsby also leads the FASTRAK Weekly Racing Series National point standings with an 11-point lead over Frankie Beard of Hartwell, GA.  Hornsby has 661 points to 650 points for Beard.  The FASTRAK WRS National Champion will receive $10,000.

The top five drivers in the FASTRAK Weekly Racing Series Division 2 point standings are also expected to be entrants in the 7th Annual UBB 29 Miners Memorial Race.  T.J. Salango of Beckley, WV leads the Division 3 standings with 754 points, and Hornsby is second with 645 points.  Michael Bland of Pineville, WV is third with 644 points, Tyler Arrington of Honaker, VA is fourth with 529 points, and Brandon Shupe of Bluefield, WV is fifth with 485 points.

The Lewis Automotive Group/Little General Stores UBB 29 Miners Race is an event that remembers the 29 coal miners that lost their lives in an accident at an Upper Big Branch Coal Mine seven years ago. One of the organizers of the race is Robbie Cyrus, who is the Director of FASTRAK’s sister series, the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series Mid-Ohio Valley Region.

“Myself and Keith Bowling started the UBB 29 Miners Memorial Race seven years ago to try and raise money to build a permanent Memorial for the 29 miners that lost their lives in the accident,” Cyrus said.  “The Memorial has already been built, and we used any money collected now to pay the upkeep on it.”

Many former winner of the UBB 29 Miners Memorial Race are expected at Princeton Speedway this Saturday night.  They include defending champion Ricky Williams of Beckley, WV, Brandon Umberger of Rural Retreat, VA (2015), Eddie Hambrick of Oak Hill, VA (2013),  and David Watts of Buchanan, VA (2011).

On Saturday at Princeton Speedway, gates open at 4:30 p.m., with FASTRAK Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 4:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.  The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:45 p.m. with Hot Laps and Racing to follow.

Hornsby Wins FASTRAK Race At Princeton And Bare Is Triple Crown Champ

06 August 2017 - 04:48 AM

PRINCETON, WV – Henry Hornsby III of Beckley, WV made some bold moves at a track he regularly competes at to win the $2,500 top prize in the 40-lap Little General Stores UBB Qualifier Race for the FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series on Saturday night driving the Henry’s Radiator Longhorn.

It was also the third Jewel of the 12th Annual FASTRAK Triple Crown, and Tyler Bare of Rockridge Baths, VA is the 2017 Champion who wore the Crown, the Robe, and carried the Scepter with a fourth-place finish in the Loco Motives Rocket.

A lap 14 restart found the young driver known as H3 in the fourth spot behind FASTRAK point leader Benji Hicks of Mt. Airy, NC, Walker Arthur of Forest, VA, and Bare.  The lead quartet of drivers went into the first turn on the restart four-wide.

When dust settled and the elbows quit flyin’, Arthur came out the leader, and Hornsby made a bold move to come out of turn two in the second spot.  On the next restart, Hornsby was able to get the hole shot on Arthur in the FASTRAK double-file restart, and take the lead on lap 15.

Hornsby never looked back and the 2016 Futures Cup South East Region Champion picked up his second career FASTRAK Touring win taking a 2.458 second margin of victory under the checkered flag.

“When we into turn one on that lap 14 restart, Arthur pushed up on Hicks, and I wasn’t sure what to do, so I just mashed the gas,” Hornsby said in Victory Lane.  “To win one of these races is just incredible.  There is so much tough competition in FASTRAK, I’m just proud to get to race with these guys.”

Bare is a third generation driver, who is keeping the family racing legacy alive and well, as not only has he captured the Triple Crown title, he also leads the FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Region point standings, and he is also a top competitor in Division 3 of the FASTRAK Weekly Racing Race Series.

“We gave up running a Division 3 race to come here tonight, so we have decided to give up on the weekly stuff and we’re going to tour with FASTRAK for the rest of the year,” Bare said after donning the spoils of victory.  “We will have to do a more traveling than we’re used to, but we have had so much fun racing with the FASTRAK Touring guys, and being able to compete with them, this is where I need to be.”

Hicks followed up his third win of the season on Friday night at 311 Motor Speedway in Pine Hall, NC with a second-place effort on Saturday night at Princeton Speedway driving the T&K Enterprises Longhorn.  Arthur came home with a third-place showing in the Cecil B. Arthur Beef Farms Longhorn.

Hornsby, Hicks, and Arthur are also Guaranteed Starters in next Saturday night’s 40-lap $3,000-to-win, $229-to-start 7th Annual Lewis Automotive Group/Little General Stores UBB 29 Miners Memorial Race at Princeton Speedway for the FASTRAK Pro Late Model South East Region and Mid-Ohio Valley Region.

Bare finished fourth with fifth-place going to T.J. Salango of Beckley, WV in the Rightway Auto Rocket.  David Watts of Buchanan, VA took the sixth spot in the Watts Racing Barry Wright, and seventh was Michael Bland of Pineville, WV in the Bland Racing Special.

The defending FASTRAK SE and MOV Champion Cla Knight of North Augusta, GA drove the Augusta Aquatics Longhorn to an eighth-place finish, and ninth went to Matthew Nance of Ronda, NC in the Diversified Finishers Longhorn.  Matt Long of Charlotte, NC rounded out the top ten in the Mello Yellow Rocket.

Jensen Ford of Piney Flats, TN started 21st and finished 11th in the Tim Byrd Motorsports TNT and was the Hard Charger of the Race.  Teddy Tate of Rural Retreat, VA finished 17th and was the Rookie of the Race driving the R&C Towing CVR.

In preliminary action, Hicks was the Fast Qualifier among the 27 entrants with a lap around Princeton Speedway in 16.928 seconds.  The three ten-lap Heat Races were won by Ricky Williams of Beckley, WV in the Lewis Automotive Group Longhorn, Arthur and Hicks.  The eight-lap B-Main Race was won by Brandon Riffe of Lerona, WV in the Riffe Racing Special.

Hicks has now pulled out to a 13-point lead over Nance in the FASTRAK SE Region point standings 300 to 287.  Ford and Knight are tied for the third spot, 18 points behind Hicks with 282 points, and Ron Parker of Belwood, NC is fifth with 281 points, 19 points behind Hicks.  Parker had a mechanical issue with his Schaeffer Oil Rocket and finished 19th.

Bare topped the 2017 Triple Crown standings with 99 points, and that’s an average finish in the three of third.  Bare won the second Jewel of the 2017 Triple Crown on July 29 at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA and had another fourth-place finish on May 26 at 311 Motor Speedway in the first Jewel.

Hicks finished second in the 2017 FASTRAK Triple Crown standings with 94 points, and Nance was third with 83 points.  Parker and Knight tied for the fourth spot with 81 points apiece and Ford was sixth with 76 points.  Tate was seventh with 66 points and Brandon Umberger of Rural Retreat, VA was eighth with 61 points in the BCU LLC Barry Wright.  Brent Hilton of Rural Retreat, VA was ninth with 60 points, and Corey Almond rounded out the top ten with 47 points.

Hicks Hustles At Home For FASTRAK Win Number 3 At 311 Motor Speedway

05 August 2017 - 06:11 AM

PINE HALL, NC – Benji Hicks gave the boys down at Floyds Barber Shop in Mayberry, USA something to talk about on Monday morning.  The driver from Mt. Airy, NC, the home of “Mayberry, USA,” drove the T&K Enterprises Longhorn to his third FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series win of the 2017 on Friday night at his home track, 311 Motor Speedway.

Hicks took the point from early race leader Jensen Ford of Piney Flats, TN on a lap 11 restart by using the high side in turns one and two, and then clearing Ford down the backstretch.  Hicks would claim the lead for his own the remainder of the race, holding off all challengers on restarts to take a 1.011 second margin of victory under the checkered flag.

“It sure feels nice to win at home in front of friends and family,” Hicks said.  “During that lap 11 caution, I noticed it was beginning to sprinkle, so I thought, well, it’s now or never, time to go!  The car did well on the outside, and we were able to get around Jensen for the lead.”

Walker Arthur of Forest, VA came on strong in the second half of the race and finished second in the Cecil B. Arthur Beef Farms Longhorn.  Third went to FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Region point leader Tyler Bare of Rockridge Baths, VA in the Loco Motives Rocket, and Ford had to settle for fourth in the Charles Byrd Motorsports TNT.

The defending FASTRAK Champion Cla Knight of North Augusta, SC took the fifth spot in the Augusta Aquatics Longhorn, and Matt Long of Charlotte, NC was sixth in the Mello Yellow Rocket.  Former FASTRAK Champion Ron Parker of Belwood, NC drove the Schaeffer Oil Rocket to a seventh-place finish, and Justin Hudspeth of Rhonda, NC was eighth in the Hudspeth Grading Longhorn.

The FASTRAK South East Region Futures Cup point leader Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA finished ninth in the Ditch Witch Longhorn, and Spencer Apple of Raleigh, NC started 17th and finished tenth in the Mechanical Specialty Goliath to earn the Hard Charger of the Race Award.

With the win, Hicks takes over the FASTRAK South East Region points lead with 266 points, and once again, there are just 12 points separating the top five in the point standings.  Parker is two points behind Hicks with 264 points, and Matthew Nance of Ronda, NC is third with 260 points, just six points out of first-place.  Ford is fourth with 257 points, and Knight is fifth with 254 points.

Nance led the FASTRAK SE points going into the race, but struggled during qualifying and heat racing.  He got things going in the main event, but had a cut tire on 19 and had to pit.  After starting from the back of the pack, Nance had worked his way up to seventh before he tangled with another car in turn two on lap 38, spun and hit the inside guardrail with the Diversified Finishers Longhorn, ending up with a 17th-place finish.

In preliminary action, Knight was the Fast Qualifier of the race, getting around the half-mile in 17.430 seconds.  The three eight-lap Heat Races were won by Hicks, Ford, and Arthur.  That put Hicks on the pole position for the 40-lap main event, with Ford on the outside of the front row, and Arthur on the inside of row two.

Ford had the advantage at the start of the race on the outside and took the lead in lap one followed by Hicks, Arthur, Brent Hilton of Rural Retreat, VA in the Cedar Springs Fish Farms Barry Wright, and Bare.  On lap two, it was Bare checking into Hilton, and taking the elevator to the fourth spot.

The first of nine caution flags flew on lap six when Timmie Harrelson of Reidsville, NC in the Allawin Café Goliath and Tristan Clawson of Mountain City, TN in the Clawson Racing TNT tangled in turn four.  The field doubled up for the restart with Ford choosing the inside and Hicks in second choosing the outside.

When the green flag came out for the restart, Hicks tried to crossover the back of Ford and dive for the inside.  Ford had too good of a bite coming off the second turn and held the lead.  Knight passed Bare for the fourth position.

The next yellow was on lap seven when Dustin Brim of Madison, NC spun the Pirtek Performance Specialties Rocket in turn three.  Ford once again chose the inside as the leader and had Hicks, Arthur, Knight, Bare, Hilton, Parker, Long, Almond and Hudspeth doubled up behind him for the restart.

The field raced three more laps under green, as Bare got by Knight to reclaim the fourth spot, and Hilton fell back to the eighth spot as Parker and Long moved up to the sixth and seventh positions respectively.  Gary Mabe of Danbury, NC in the Collins Construction Barry Wright stalled in turn three on lap nine.

Ford on the inside and Hicks on the outside raced hard into the first turn on the restart.  Hicks once tried the across the back dive for bottom inside move with once again no success.  In two more laps, Hicks would get to try it again, or were those move just a set up?

Lap 11 saw Brandon Hall of Danbury, NC spin the Nelson Motorsports Barry Wright in turn four.  Hilton went to the pits dropping out of the eighth spot.  Eighth through tenth now belonged to Hudspeth, Steve Blackburn of Greensboro, NC in the Billy Allen Taxidermy Rocket, and Nance.

Ford again was on the inside with Hicks on outside for the restart and the leaders again charged into turn one side-by-side.  Ford anticipated the inside move by Hicks and when he covered the bottom of the track, Hicks was not there.  Eyes right, for Hicks was charging hard on the outside, and cleared Ford coming off turn two and grabbed the lead of the race.

Once Hicks got out front, he began to pull away from the field.  By lap 16, Hicks had a half a straightaway lead over Ford.  That lead was slowed by the caution flag on lap 19 when Nance cut down a tire running ninth.  The field doubled up with Hicks leading Ford, Bare, Arthur, Parker, Knight, Long, Hudspeth, Blackburn and Almond.

On the restart, two drivers reclaimed positions as Arthur passed Bare for third, and Knight got by Parker for the fifth position.  A lap 23 restart was set up after Harrelson stalled in turn four.  When the green bulb came back on, Arthur passed Ford for second, but Hicks had already opened up an eight car-length lead.

A yellow on lap 24 turned into a red flag condition when Hall spun in turn two and made a hard hit into the guard rail.  Safety crews were quick to respond, helped Hall out of his car, and he seemed to be O.K.  Hicks led Arthur, Ford, Bare, Parker, Knight, Long, Almond, Hudspeth, and Nance down for the double-file restart.

When the green came out, Arthur tried the same outside move on Hicks that Hicks used on Ford to take the lead.  Arthur got his nose just alongside Hicks’ right-rear quarter panel, but Hicks pulled away going down the backstretch.  Behind the first-place battle, Ford and Bare were racing side-by-side for third.

The field slowed for the eighth time on lap 33 when Clawson stalled in turn two.  With the race inside of ten laps to go, the field lined up for a single-file restart.  Hicks pulled out to an eight car-length advantage, and was fixing to get the white flag when Nance spun while running seventh and hit the steel in turn two.  Hicks pulled away again in the green-white-checkered to the finish of the race.

The next race for the FASTRAK SE and MOV Regions will be Saturday with the $2,500-to-win, $250-to-start Little General Stores 40 at Princeton Speedway in Princeton, WV.  This will also be the third and final Jewel of the 12th Annual FASTRAK Triple Crown.

In addition, Saturday’s Princeton Speedway race is a Qualifying Race for $3,000-to-win, $229-to-start FASTRAK 7th Annual Lewis Automotive/Little General Stores UBB 29 Miners Memorial 40 at Princeton Speedway on August 12.

FASTRAK $2,500-To-Win Little General Stores 40 This Saturday At Princeton

03 August 2017 - 10:19 AM

CARNESVILLE, GA – The FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series will compete in the third Jewel of the 12th Annual FASTRAK Triple Crown this Saturday night with the $2,500-to-win, $250-to-start Little General Stores 40 at Princeton Speedway in Princeton, WV.  Tyler Bare of Rockridge Baths, VA leads the Triple Crown point standings.

               Here’s the complete payout for the Saturday night Little General Stores 40 at Princeton Speedway:  1. $2,000; 2. $1,000; 3. $700; 4. $600; 5. $500; 6. $450; 7. $400; 8. $375; 9. $350; 10. $325; 11. $315; 12. $300; 13. $275; 14. $265; 15. $250; 16. $250; 17. $250; 18. $250; 19. $250; 20. $250; 21. $250; 22. $250; 23. $250; 24. $250.

The final Jewel of the 12th Annual FASTRAK Triple Crown will feature three tight point battles that include the Triple Crown points, the FASTRAK South East Region points, and the FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Region points.  Just 11 points separate the top five in the Triple Crown points, and only 18 points separate the top five drivers in the FASTRAK SE points chase.

Bare leads both the Triple Crown and the FASTRAK MOV point standings.  Bare has 67 Triple Crown points and is fresh off a victory in the second Jewel of the Triple Crown last Saturday night at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA.  The second-generation driver holds a three-point advantage over former FASTRAK Champion Ron Parker of Belwood, NC, who has 64 points.

Benji Hicks of Mt. Airy, NC and Brent Hilton of Rural Retreat, VA are tied for the third spot in the Triple Crown standings with 60 points apiece.  The current FASTRAK SE point leader Matthew Nance of Ronda, NC is fifth in the Triple Crown standings with 56 points.

Nance is the first driver during the 2017 season to hold the FASTRAK SE point lead after two straight races.  Nance, who has 241 points, has used three top four finishes in his last three starts to sit on top of the points list with a win, a second-place effort, and a fourth-place showing.

Parker is currently second in the FASTRAK SE points chase in his quest for a second championship.  Parker has 235 points, just six points behind Nance.  While Parker is only driver in the top five of the point standings to have not yet held the top spot, he has been consistent with a pair of third-place finishes in his last three races.

Hicks is third in the FASTRAK SE standings with 231 points.  Hicks is the only driver with two FASTRAK wins this season and has been in the Championship hunt since winning the season opener on April 1 at Toccoa Raceway in Toccoa, GA.

Jensen Ford of Piney Flats, TN is fourth in the FASTRAK SE standings with 225 points and one win this season on June 17 at Toccoa Raceway.  Ford is trying to recover from a couple of hard luck races where he was involved in accidents not of his own making.

The defending FASTRAK SE Champion Cla Knight of North Augusta, SC is fifth in the standings with 223 points and one win this season on July 22 at Screven Motorsports Complex in Sylvania, GA.  Knight didn’t really hit his stride until Labor Day Weekend of last season, so he is still a legitimate title contender.

Bare leads the FASTRAK MOV standings with 133 points.  The battle for second is tight with just three points separating four drivers.  Parker is second with 115 points and Hicks is tied with Nance for the third spot with 114 points apiece.  Ford is fifth with 112 points.

Also expected for the FASTRAK Little General Stores 40 this Saturday night at Princeton Speedway will be the defending FASTRAK Triple Crown Champion Ross Bailes of Clover, SC and the FASTRAK SE Futures Cup point leader 18-year-old Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA.  The FASTRAK Futures Cup is a point fund for FASTRAK drivers under the age of 20 at the start of the season.

At the conclusion of the Little General Stores 40, the 2017 FASTRAK Triple Crown Champion will be honored in Victory Lane in a special ceremony where he will be Crowned, Draped with a Robe, and handed a Scepter.

The winner of the Little General Stores 40 will be a Guaranteed Starter in the FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series 40-lap $3,000-to-win, $229-to-start Lewis Automotive/Little General Stores 7th Annual UBB 29 Miners Memorial Race at Princeton Speedway on August 12.

Princeton Speedway is located at 177 Race Track Road in Princeton, WV  24740.  For more information call 304-425-RACE (7223), or visit the track web site at www.princetonspeedway.net.  You can also follow them on Facebook at Princeton Speedway (WV).
