when a couple of the WoO sprint guys were at the track for one of the big Dirt late models races. they came up to us and were talking. at one point in the conversation they mentioned that in a car without a windshield, when you hit 140MPH, it feels like your helmet falls off. i of course didn't believe them. thought they were joking. little bit later in the evening we went out for hot laps. our driver came in after 2 laps and said he thought he lost his helmet. now 140MPH is flying in a dirt car. and the average speed would never show that kind of speed. But, going into turn 3 is where he shut the car down and brought it in. keep in mind, this was the Dirt track at central pa speedway only a few years back. and that track was quite a bit shorter than the paved track was before and is now. whether you guys believe this story is up to you, but if you could have seen the look in his face, you would totally understand.Well, when I won the Late Model Sportsman Championship there, I ran an avg of 102 mph ((.519 mi) / (18.3 sec) = 102.098361 mi/h) with a 2-bbl carb 355.
Which is approximately 102.098361 mi/h faster than you at your keyboard.
The super lates ran about half a second quicker ( (.519 mi) / (17.8 sec) = 104.966292 mi/h).

with dirt late models running upwards of 140MPH on the Shorter Dirt Track, its Very believeable that the street stocks were getting close to 120 at the end of the back stretch.Oh man. Sorry about missing that. What planet was that track on?

If Blair would have tried 12.1 mph harder, dirt would be faster than asphalt.

and again this is average speed. on the dirt track they dropped ALOT of speed going into turn 1. ask those guys on that pavement to kick it slideways going into the turns and have them run side by side with 2 or 3 other cars doing the same thing =) Men from the Boys gentlemen....men from the boys...If Blair would have tried 12.1 mph harder, dirt would be faster than asphalt.

Thats AVERAGE speed buddy and of course all tracks are gana be a diff speed retard. track conditions are obviously going to make the speed diff too. Slick track obviously not going to go as fast retard Ive been going to dirt tracks all my life ive seen them hit well over 100 mph several times. Thats also latemodels sprints are going to be quicker yet......... and like go fast said.... this is at the end of the straightaways where dirt guys are throwing it sideways at this speed. Lets see Ur asphalt guys do this buddy...... lets see there talent oh wait they have none because all they do is race around keeping it perfectly straight and looking in there mirrors to see who's coming behind them an talking on there radio to find the quickest line because there too scared to try diff lines. They also know there car is gana stick going into the turn. Dirt have no idea if itll stick or not they just have the balls to hold it an hope it sticks. You wana see talent watch Steve everhart in car video at Bedford. He dont use tear offs......... he uses his hand to wipe he face shield while racing which means hes racing with one hand at times and reminder this is on dirt going 100 plus mph going sideways........
You're silly.

why is everyone so caught up in Average Speed? get a radar gun. stand at the end of the front or back stretch, and clock the cars before they shut it down for the turn. then compare that to your "average speed".
We don't want to hurt your feelings by discussing top speed. It's bad enough asphalt is superior in average speed.

i mean, since you brought it up with Kyle Busch and Eldora. why don't you give Tony Stewart a call just to see what the top speeds are at that track...not the average, the top speeds. my best guess in a super late is probly close to 150MPH or more
You're delusional if you think late models have ever reached 150 MPH or more at Eldora.
