The sportsmans at ppms are going faster than the super lates at lernerville on most nights. I heard the 5 and 55 were turning 18s last night. Thats fast.
Whoever told you that stock cars were turning 18s is an idiot.

Even the Late Models weren't in the 18 second bracket last night, but 102 mph is damn fast for a Sportsman car.

You ain't kidding. There were cars getting up on the bars and burying the right front.

The 4 cylinders were faster than the late models for the firecracker with the slick track due to rushing the show and rain all around. It was a dam shame.

I don't comment much, but I've seen about enough bagging on "the new announcer". I know Jim Zufall from working in the industry for nine years now, but I wouldn't call him a close, personal friend. So I'm not backing him up because I'm defensive as a friend of his. I can tell you that he is a great guy, loves and advocates for the sport with all of his heart. I can also tell you that filling in for Dow several times the past few seasons is an incredibly daunting task! He works professionally in radio, does his homework, loves and has been involved in the sports for a long, long time and is truly an ambassador for local racing. We are very spoiled to have him on our PA system and anyone following him would pale in comparison.
But until you've tried to call a race sanctioned by three different bodies and information coming in spotty at best, you really shouldn't be so critical. I've been down there twice this season and Jim does a decent job, but just like no promoter will ever be like Don Martin, local announcers like Dow Carnahan do not come around often. He's new to this and it takes some time to find a rhythm and get comfortable. And all the rainouts haven't helped that process for Jim.
I've always loved Dutko's announcing from his time at Lernerville and now at Mercer, I've always respected and enjoyed listening to Brian Spaid and Walt Wimer at Tri-City and now with Brian's work with the Rush Series, but these guys have all been doing it for years and years. Jim was called upon to fill big shoes, out of his element and stepped up to fill a void that nobody could aptly fill.
Johnny Gibson, Dow Carnahan and the like make it sound so easy to get in the car number, driver's name, hometown and names of the sponsors while they're pacing the race, but I can tell you first hand that it's nowhere near as easy as they make it sound. And having worked with multiple sanctioning bodies on the same night lacking the pertinent information you need, is very difficult.
Congrats to Vince on attracting 50+ cars for this memorial race!
And be nice to Jim, he'll never be Dow, (that's not a knock on Jim, that's a huge tip of the cap to Dow), but he'll continue to grow and improve; give it time!

Big E, how come you dont announce at ppms sometime?
When the boat is sinking, you better get the biggest bucket to bail out water, not just a cup.

You people are delusional. This isn't 1994 anymore. These tracks, and it absolutely includes Lernerville , especially Lernerville, better start complimenting the overall fan experience. By that I mean, clean rest rooms more modern and faster concessions, clean and well lit facilities, and fast paced, four hour or less programs with as little dust as possible. All of these suggestions cater to the broader population as well as the hard core fan.
I've been to Little League games that have nicer facilities than many of our area tracks and that is pathetic. Everyone wants to bitch and moan about the decline in car and fan counts, but what are the tracks (promoters) doing to fix it?
Let me ask you hard core PPMS fans this; If Pittsburgh were averaging 100 cars and 5000 fans a week, would the facility be any better now than, say, five years ago?

Skull, I'm not a hard core PPMS fan, I'm a hard core race fan, period. Some of us have more tolerance for shortcomings than others. You do you share of complaining about Lernerville, but usually in a constructive way. I may put up with more than the average fan to see what I consider to be good racing. The problems of today's racetracks goes far beyond the condition of the facilities and the speediness of the program. Kids of today are much more self-absorbed than in my day, if their parents aren't interested in racing, they probably won't be either. Lernerville still gets pretty good crowds, but not as good as just a few years ago. I don't know what the answer is, but am damn glad I'm not a promoter in today's market.

Thanks and congrats to Vince for the great turnout. It is nice to see so many racers support you and your dad's memory. The Sportmans Ed Laboon race and late model feature was very entertaining to watch. Watching Ferree hunt down Flinner is always fun.
The track... I counted 4-5 lights that work on each light stand out of 8 or 10. Maybe less in some spots. Been that way for years and probably will never get better. A shame because it wouldn't be hard to fix or that expensive. The temp lighting and lost concession $$ from people that leave early when there's a delay, probably cost more than the permanent fix.
There was a rut in turn 3 bad enough to peel tires off (been there, tried that) and I watched as many cars had both tires on the left side leave the ground over it. Flinner lost the lead to Ferree after getting jacked in that rut. Fast, yep, smooth, well.. 80% of the way around.
Waiting for 4 hours to not race sucks after a Friday night to 4am Sat morning press to get ready
Oh... last night was first for the year, they didn't have the 'driver facts' sheet to fill out. I'm sure that's how Dow always knew stuff about everyone. Either we missed it, or they're not asking for sponsors, hometown, facts etc like in years past. Would be hard to be a new annoucer without any of those details like Dow had available.
