So the Mercer group is private messaging Penn Ohio drivers on Facebook asking them to support Mercer both days over the Penn Ohio series. Problem is they didnt do their homework and messaged Shaun Hooks who is not only a registered driver but also the series promoter. Ooops. Old habits die hard I see. Stay classy Mercer.

This is beyond hilarious....

Are you insinuating Id be responsible for a closed race track that is poaching drivers for a one time event being closed again? Because no matter what anyone says that will be the case.

Some of you guys are forgetting that whoever is running the Mercer deal needed to pick a Saturday when neither Sharon or Pittsburgh was running Sprint Cars!!!   After all  the Sprints are the headline class and the one that draws the most fans to the track!!   Sorry that there is a conflict between Mercer and a Penn Ohio race this weekend!!  Actually, I think Mercer would have done much better, at least car count wise, to have had the RUSH Sportsman-Modified class than the Stocks!!  That way they would probably had some 20-25 cars both nights!!     Where Mercer has really slipped is no press releases sent out or paid ads that I have seen. If not for racestud and Facebook, I wouldn't have known they are running!!!

GOOD RACING TO ALL!!!

I dont get it. Mercer said screw you drivers, fans, sponsors, ect we are not opening this year. Now they have to have 1 race and drivers, fans, ect are all happy and ready to throw their money to the owner who doesnt care about them. I understand they want to be at the local track, but I guess its the same situation like ppms, others have made offers and greed has taken over.

My guess is they identified past Mercer regulars, including Hooks, and sent them this message.  Probably sent it to other "household name" drivers, too.

Did the message specifically mention not going to the Penn Ohio race, or did it just ask them to support Mercer?  If the former is true, they're agressive - it's a one-off race; what do they have to lose?  If the latter is true, fake news.

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

So you mean the sprint car people who know nothing about stock cars didnt even know who promotes the series theyre supposed to be out to get? They were messaging random stock people asking if theyd race with them? How evil!

I was told it went to all current Penn Ohio members on Facebook via private message. It acknowledges competing against the Penn Ohio race but asks for one or both nights support.

Maybe I live in a fantasy land. I have no problem with that. But when I schedule my Dads race I always did it on a night when Sharon AND Mercer didnt have Stocks. And if/when the race rained out, I rescheduled on a date when they (or now just Sharon) didnt have Stocks. And I never scheduled against Applefest and LGN because it would hurt both car counts. I would never ever private message and poach drivers from a show that was scheduled months before mine and hurt that track and their sponsors. Ever. I was okay with the well theyre sprint guys and probably didnt even know it was a Penn Ohio race but these messages show otherwise.

So it should be pretty easy to post a copy of this alledged Facebook Message that was sent to so many drivers.

You make it sound a whole lot worse than it actually is. They explained why they chose the dates they did. They did not criticize anybody for supporting the stock car series. They asked drivers to consider racing at Mercer, but also said they perfectly understood if teams could not be there.

I read my posts tonight 3 times now. Where did I say they criticized anyone? I said they were personally private messaging Penn Ohio drivers (including Shaun Hooks himself) and I thought trying to poach drivers was unprofessional or shady at best. I stand behind that and provided the proof you were insinuating I didn’t have. I don’t see how any of this was me making it sound worse than it was, but we can agree to disagree.

Nothing wrong with reaching out with an invitation. As long as there was no bashing of the other series involved which clearly there wasnt

Racer17L, if you honestly think Scott was trying to “poach” other drivers then you’ve never meet him. He’s about the nicest guy in the pits, willing to give anyone the shirt off his back. He is simply informing the teams that there’s a race Friday, what if stateline rains out or cancels for any reason, now the stock guys know they have a good paying option for Saturday as well.

The date might seem dumb to you, but being that sprint cars are the headliner it is actually a perfect date with a lot of Ohio tracks shutting down for the weekend because of the Kings royal at eldora. This race give the lower buck Ohio guys a place to race for good pay Saturday, and the wpa guys a three day weekend.

Try and have a better day, with less bitching, and being thankful that a track that was closed at least had one more shot...

You came on here and made it sound like they said f*ck penn ohio, come race with us. Thats not what it was at all. But I now realize you are a dolt, so I understand you are having trouble distinguishing whats reality and your dream world.

Hot dog honestly your opinion really doesnt hold any credibility at this point. Re-read this whole thread. First you said they were sprint guys who dont know the first thing about stocks or the series. Then you said those drivers were nothing but a support division and lucky to be on the card to pad the back gate. Then these promoters suddenly understand who each series driver is and slides messages in the DM trying to poach drivers from a well established series who has had this race on their schedule since the winter. You will obviously make any excuse you can for this group so there is no changing your mind at this point. After this cash grab is over the Penn Ohio series and Shaun Hooks will continue to unify stock racing in the area and have their best interest in the drivers while Mercer will be counting their money until the next tractor pull and watching the grass grow on turn 2 again. Enjoy the weeekend.
